During the Dallas Bridal Show we were super busy so we called in some interns to help us. Since Kristin and Travis were getting married at Old Red that night we had to split our staff to work both places. Anna and Amy helped me set up and then Elizabeth came to help actually run the wedding with me.
We thought it would be fun to hear the perspective of someone new to the business. So here is a Q&A session with our intern, Elizabeth:
Beth: Thanks for doing this we always love to have the insight from the younger crowd…I think that is what keeps us fresh and on the cutting edge of trends. So I know you have helped us plan weddings, gone on site visits and made lots of calls for us. But this was your first wedding to work. Was it what you were expecting?
Elizabeth: It was definitely so much more work than I was expecting – but it was all FUN work for me. There were so many things that we did behind the scenes that I know no one will ever know, but it made the wedding run so smoothly!
Beth: Was it hard at your age to tell older people what to do? How did you handle that?
Elizabeth: It was a little difficult to corral people into the Ceremony room and then keep them out of the reception room, especially when they were adults that I was dealing with. Fortunately, once they realized that I was a part of the Wedding Day Bliss team, they started responding to my instructions or requests. Most of the older people know how a wedding works; it was actually the teenagers that tried to push the limits a little bit.
Beth: How important was it to keep to the timeline?
Elizabeth: It was crucial to follow the timeline exactly as it was written out. The venue had a copy of the same timeline, as well as the DJ, and so if we were late running the ceremony then everything else would be affected. It wasn’t very hard to stick to the timeline because the Bridal party just listened to everything we had to say. It is so great when they can just let our team handle the details and they can just enjoy the day.
Beth: Were you exhausted after a whole day at the Bridal Show and a Wedding till midnight?
Elizabeth: It was the most exhausting experience that I have had in a long time. I started by meeting and greeting brides at the Dallas Bridal Show and then went straight to the wedding without a break. Luckily I absolutely enjoy all things bridal, so it was worth it to me. The next morning I actually sucked it up and went back to the bridal show for round two. I had to get back to college for a summer class that same day, but when I started driving I realized just how tired I really was. I ended up taking a nap at a rest stop mid-way through my drive!
Beth: What elements of the wedding did you find:
~ touching
The most touching moment for me was when I brought Kristen out to meet her dad before walking down the aisle. He took one look at her and immediately started choking back the tears. This only made Kristen more emotional and the two were crying/laughing RIGHT before the doors opened to reveal the beautiful bride!
~ funny
Oh my gosh, well Kristen and her dad started their father-daughter dance, which actually turned into the father-daughters dance. Her two youngest sisters ran out onto the dance floor and joined Kristen and her dad for a funny dance to a song written about the Three Little Pigs.
~ surprising?
The surprising part about the wedding was honestly how much work there was to be done even while the ceremony and reception were taking place.
~ beautiful
Well the whole thing was beautiful. Kristen just glowed throughout the whole night. I could tell she was having a blast and that made everything worth it for me.
Beth: What was the hardest part of the night?
Elizabeth: Not getting out on to the dance floor with everyone! The whole wedding seemed like a blast, and I just wanted to jump in and enjoy it as much as the guests were!!
Beth: Would you do it again?
Elizabeth: I will DEFINITELY do it again! But I would prefer not to do the Bridal show AND a wedding in the same day. Unless a post-wedding massage is written into my contract. ;)
